You may be eligible for free cognitive-behavioural therapy and related services through the Ontario Structured Psychotherapy Program (OSP).
Coordinated by Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care, the services are delivered by select, trained community-based organizations, and include resources guided by a coach
or clinician and one-on-one or group therapy sessions with a clinician.
Depending on your needs and preferences, you will be matched with an OSP service. Most people begin with the resources guided by a coach or clinician and move to individual or group therapy if they need more support.
All services in OSP are based on cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) approaches. Cognitive-behavioural therapy teaches practical skills and techniques to change patterns of behaviour and thinking. This supports better mental health and the ability to cope with difficult emotions and situations.
To learn more, speak with your health care provider or visit the Ontario Structured Psychotherapy Central North website.
OSP offers two types of services to best meet your needs and preferences:
Self-led resources guided by a coach or clinician:
Individual or group CBT:
All services in OSP are based on CBT approaches. CBT teaches people practical skills and techniques to change the patterns of behaviour and thinking. This can lead to better mental health and the ability to cope with difficult emotions and situations. OSP is also a stepped care program. This means that most people will begin with the self-led resources and will move to individual or group therapy if they need more support. While participating in the service your progress will be monitored regularly. This will help ensure the service meets your needs and changes can be made, if needed.
Participation in the program will require your time to attend sessions and complete readings or homework between sessions. The amount of time needed to participate varies depending on the service and will fluctuate from person to person.
OSP services are coordinated by 10 organizations across the province. Each of these organizations works with different community-based organizations across their network to offer services to people as close to home as possible.
Services may be available in a variety of languages depending on the network. Please contact your local network to learn what is available.
OSP is not suitable for everyone. Some people may have complex needs that cannot be met by the program. Others may have concerns that are outside the scope of the program, such as severe eating disorders or dementia. In these cases, the OSP team will try to identify services within your local area that can better support you.
To participate in the program, you must be 18 years of age or older, and have concerns that are related to depression or an anxiety-related disorder. To begin, follow this link to refer yourself to the program.
